The School Day

Every day for our pupils is carefully shaped to be lively, fun and engaging – full of interesting and exciting experiences that encourage each child to stay curious, build confidence and strive to do their best. They approach learning with enthusiasm and a readiness to take part, while teachers ensure there is progress and active involvement in every lesson through imaginative methods and a strong focus on stretching and challenging all learners.

For pupils in Reception to Year 5, academic subjects are taught by class teachers, with specialist teaching introduced for Science from Year 5. Our co-curricular subjects – Art, Computing, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, Music, and Physical Education and Games – are also led by specialists throughout the school.

When pupils reach Year 6, all subjects are then taught by specialist teachers. Class teachers are responsible for Form Times and the teaching of PSHE lessons.

All pupils enjoy two daily breaktimes in our large playground, with Lower School pupils also benefitting from an extra play session in the afternoon.

To fuel their busy days, all pupils enjoy a healthy, freshly prepared meal. Our onsite team, Harrison Catering, also provides morning snacks, with additional refreshments for those staying for after-school activities.

A broad enrichment programme adds further depth to pupils’ experiences, with clubs running before, during, and after the school day from the Lent Term of Year 1. We are lucky to be positioned in London and to have the opportunity of visiting and experiencing the many wonders of this capital city. We see our surrounding area, including Clapham and Wandsworth Commons, as an extension of the classroom, giving pupils regular opportunities to go on trips, take part in fixtures and tournaments, and learn from visiting speakers who help bring their studies to life.

Timings of the Day

The school day is structured slightly differently, depending on the age of the pupils. The school doors open at 0810 each morning, but Early Risers welcomes pupils from 0745 and is open to any pupil who needs to start the day a little earlier.

We offer all parents from Reception to Year 8 the option of After School Care, which takes place in the Art Block after school each day until 1800. Parents are able to book online through the Parent Portal. Parents are able to book regular long-term slots or ad hoc sessions when needed.
